Cycling Days

As part of my goal to get back to doing the things I’ve loved, I’ve been joining up with some fellow cyclists lately for rides on the weekend. So far all the paths I’ve taken have ended in Tai Mei Tuk, though I’m hoping purchasing my own bike soon will leave me with more options for riding. Nevertheless, the Tai Wai (or Tai Shui Hang) to Tai Mei Tuk path is a fun one, even after several rides through and is especially beautiful during night bike rides. And riding through the Plover Cove Reservoir at the end always leaves me impressed by its shear gigantic size. Here are some pics from some recent bike rides over the past few weeks. Riding this path is easily one of the top things that I love about Hong Kong.

Weekend Wanderings

My younger brother had likewise been living abroad these past few months and had decided to visit me in Hong Kong this week before his return  to Los Angeles. Though I’ve been getting lazy with taking photos of Hong Kong life, his visit prompted me to show him around some awesomely scenic places, including Lantau Island, where we went to Tai O Village and the Big Buddha. Though I had visited previously visited Tai O during the late winter and the Big Buddha in spring, it was still cool to see these places again. This time around I hiked a small ways beyond the Buddha on a trail that goes to an area called Wisdom Path. It was pretty much a pathway upon a hill with large pillars everywhere. Some of them can be seen in the final two photos below. And yes – there was a cow!!!

There were many other hiking trails that area too, some of which that lead to some pretty epic scenery sights of the gigantic hills of Lantau. I plan on returning for an all day hike once the weather cools.

Other things I showed my brother while he was in town that I did not capture on camera included bicycle riding in Cheung Chau, hiking in Lamma Island, going to the movies twice at the Cinematheque in Yau Ma Tei to watch To Rome With Love and Moonrise Kingdom (review coming up), and hanging out at a hardcore band night at Hidden Agenda. It was a week well done.

stuffs, part 4.

Yet another bicycle post. Last night I FINALLY bitch-slapped life in the face and attended my first Critical Mass 400+ person bike ride. It’s like life was just doing everything to stop me from ever attending. From destroying my bike and breaking my arm last February to making me work on every scheduled CM date since I healed, it seemed Critical Mass would be something I would always be putting off to another month. And this week, the week it seemed that I would finally able to attend, I got bloody sick with the monster allergy attack from hell (maybe karma payback for taking more than my fair share of free pizza at Tuesday’s Pizza & Post?). Luckily I was 93% better by Friday night and it at long last it was ON.

The epic ride began in the heart of Koreatown, into downtown, past Little Tokyo and into East L.A., over one of the bridges above the L.A. river, back to downtown and Koreatown, then all the way to Hollywood & Highland and finishing up at Sunset and Western. WE TOOK OVER STREETS. What a terrific way lead into the final weekend of October and I really hope I can do this again (meaning next month).

Besides that, it was a great October.  Lots of editing work coming my way and I am going to be apart of some productions coming up next month that I am VERY excited to be working on. Though I’m not much of a drinker, early in the month, I actually got to drink some special Oktoberfest beers which was great since I’ve always wanted to celebrate it in some form.

And the best thing that was better than everything in my life this month was totally seeing The Drums. KICK ASS SHOW and one of my favorites of the year (and rivaling last October’s Matt & Kim epicness).

So now Halloween is coming (with a Captain Ahab show) and I really hope I see someone dressed as Zombie Steve Jobs.

Once that is done and finished, the death of 2011 begins with November kicking off. Things happening: The Monolators & Shonen Knife performing on the 1st and then my birthday looms. All I want this year is the Harry Potter film set and the bear backpack from Yosemite this year (can be ordered online!).

i love my bike.

Two weeks ago on October 9th Downtown L.A. once again held the massive daytime bike ride known as CicLavia and this time I wasn’t left gawking on the sidewalk alone and sad. No, this time I had a bike and I WAS THERE. Fun times were the result.

And I actually remembered to bring my camera with me for once.
