Window View of Jordan, Hong Kong

I took home my work’s Canon 5D this weekend to get familiar with it for a video shoot coming this week (I usually only work in post-production so I needed to raise my camera confidence). I took this still from looking out my window view in my apartment.

I figured I might as well posted it since, being the non-photo enthusiast that I am, 99% of all other photos on this blog contains pictures from my iPod camera.

Weekend Wanderings

My younger brother had likewise been living abroad these past few months and had decided to visit me in Hong Kong this week before his return  to Los Angeles. Though I’ve been getting lazy with taking photos of Hong Kong life, his visit prompted me to show him around some awesomely scenic places, including Lantau Island, where we went to Tai O Village and the Big Buddha. Though I had visited previously visited Tai O during the late winter and the Big Buddha in spring, it was still cool to see these places again. This time around I hiked a small ways beyond the Buddha on a trail that goes to an area called Wisdom Path. It was pretty much a pathway upon a hill with large pillars everywhere. Some of them can be seen in the final two photos below. And yes – there was a cow!!!

There were many other hiking trails that area too, some of which that lead to some pretty epic scenery sights of the gigantic hills of Lantau. I plan on returning for an all day hike once the weather cools.

Other things I showed my brother while he was in town that I did not capture on camera included bicycle riding in Cheung Chau, hiking in Lamma Island, going to the movies twice at the Cinematheque in Yau Ma Tei to watch To Rome With Love and Moonrise Kingdom (review coming up), and hanging out at a hardcore band night at Hidden Agenda. It was a week well done.

catch ups, part 2.

Following Shanghai, I finally got back on track to exploring Hong Kong and finally doing some touristy stuff. The coolest thing yet was seeing the Big Buddha with Jeane. It was a perfect day to go as it was a foggy one, making the Buddha look quite mysterious. But the way to the Buddha itself was just as fantastic. To get there, we had to ride cable cars through the giant hills of Lantau Island to reach Ngong Ping Village, a tourist area built to resemble an old village that was filled with several restaurants and gift shops.

Below the Giant Buddha was Po Lin Monastery,  a Buddhist monastery. Though the large temple houses were awesome, what really caught my eye were the random dogs everywhere in sight. EVERYWHERE.

catch ups.

Well, well, well.  I haven’t posted anything on here since the 14th. Ugh… I fell behind again. I’ve just been watching too much damn Netflix since getting a new computer. But so many awesome things have been happening every week this month and if I wait any longer to post about them, it would mean endless catching up. So the time is now! First of all: I went to Shanghai earlier this month! It was rad.

Though my first time in mainland China was all work and half a day of play, it was a beautiful city to visit and I loved how different it was to Hong Kong life. Two major factors that I noticed: less crowded and less English. Both of these facts I liked a lot and left me definitely wanting to return to the mainland soon to wander on my own and explore new scenery.

One particular thing I am happy I got to do in Shanghai? Walk down the street listening to Shanghaied  by Bishop Allen! Of course, I had planned to do this weeks in advance.
